All the talk these days seems to focus around ways to promote your business online. However, there are some excellent, offline methods you can use to promote your business, too. Although online promotion is important, it’s crucial to remember to go back to the basics and do local offline promoting as well.

These strategies are so darn simple (Duplication!!!!) and do not consume any extra time of yours AND can even put more money in your pocket come tax time. By integrating your advertising and marketing into what you’re doing personally already, you’re able to write off expenses that you wouldn’t be able to normally like mileage. Besides, by focusing solely on internet marketing, you are missing out on 50% of the population and you NEVER know where your next “Superstar” may come from – that person who picks up that drop card you just left behind may be looking for just the right opportunity and it didn’t even take any effort on your part because all you did was leave a paper trail behind you while you were going about your normal day-to-day routine.

And don’t just think in terms of JUST business cards, flyers and drop cards. For example, leave behind a pen with your advertising message when filling out your deposit slip at the bank. Recycle your old magazines by placing a label with your advertising message leaving them in waiting rooms, etc. before you leave…..you get the picture. The list goes on so let your imagination run wild!!!

Word of caution….make sure to use common sense. For example, if you want to leave stuff on parked cars, please don’t put it on the windshield because that is just plain annoying. If you want to do it, put a drop card on the driver’s side door instead.

Here is a list of 25 different places to advertise to get you started….

    Great info!

Although you mentioned libraries on your list, I’m not sure exactly how you meant that. However, I actually read books from the library. When I return them, I put a “post-it-note” with my info INSIDE the books, stuck anywhere on the pages, or a business or drop card. Whoever goes to check out the book next will see it. If the library staff sees it first, they’ll probably remove it – but then they have seen it. So the message still got out.

I haven’t had anyone get upset with me, because they likely think someone was using it as a bookmark.

@Julie Klein, Hey Julie! You’ve got the idea. I do the same plus stick in a few extra books while I’m there (don’t go overboard of course). I even have bookmark templates (with advertising message) and I use those too and some libraries will also put in with the others (bookmarks) they have available for people to take. Many libraries also have bulletin boards.

    Thanks for the comment, Laura

Great info Laura! You are always so resourceful when it comes to working online, or offline. :)
I love the one about leaving your info with your tip at a restaurant. It’s so easy, and convenient.
I know that I have also went into a card store (like Hallmark for example) and when I’m looking for a card for someone (i.e. birthday, wedding anniversary, etc.) I have put business cards in the cards so the next person that opens the card will see my business card…or you can put one in the envelopes of the cards so the business cards won’t fall out. :)
Great job! I look forward to your next post!
