Build Your Self-Esteem, A Start Guide To Self Improvement
So how do you stay calm, composed and maintain self esteem in a tough environment? Here are some tips you may consider as a starter guide to self improvement.
Over the course of the last few weeks, I went through my personal list of the Top 10 Newbie Mistakes in an effort to help new network marketers avoid them.
If you missed mistakes #10 through #3, here they are…

Now onto mistake #2 and #1
Mistake #2 – Not being coachable/trainable, trying to reinvent the wheel and do it all on your own.
The concept of network marketing works on the principle of duplication. Duplicate the system and the results will follow. Problem is, many newbies try to reinvent the wheel or do it all on their own. I was definitely guilty of this one. So just follow what has already been established and proven. Yes, over time you’ll add your own “personal flavor” but just get into immediate action NOW and KEEP IT SIMPLE!
The mistake people often make here too is that they assume the role of waiting for help and expecting it to come and be offered. Avoiding this mistake is easy. If you need help, it is your responsibility to step up and ask. Do NOT wait for your enroller to call you to offer support. And if you feel you are not getting the support you need from your enroller or your upline, then it is your responsibility to be resourceful and seek it out because it is out there. Don’t use that as an excuse to quit.
And my Number ONE mistake is…
Not Making Personal Development a Priority.
This is the #1 biggest mistake you can make as an entrepreneur. Successful people make self growth a priority. What you do today will determine your readiness for tomorrow. So take time every day to do something to move forward. No one can do it for you. And always remember, Personal Development is a continuous process NOT an event.
I believe personal development in Network Marketing can really be divided into 3 categories: Mindset, Technical Knowledge and Leadership. About 90% of your success is based on your mindset. In other words, if you think you can…. So, you constantly want to be feeding your mind positive reinforcement and surrounding yourself with positive and successful people. Technical knowledge is about learning how to generate leads, how to talk to people, learning about your company, their products/services, time management, etc. and Leadership is just that – developing yourself as a leader keeping in mind that leadership is NOT “managing” it’s about building trust, cultivating relationships and leading by example.
Well there you have it – my Top 10 Network Marketing Newbie Mistakes. I just touched on these briefly so I encourage and welcome your comments and suggestions concerning these to add helpful advice. Please leave a comment below and share with your facebook and twitter friends. Make it a Great Day!

When it comes to Network Marketing (and this can be applied to any business), there are far more people that fail than succeed.
Do you have so much to do that it seems overwhelming and you just shut down and do nothing?

Aint that the truth! You are right on!
In addition to personal growth and being coachable, I think the most important skills a newbie mlmer must learn and master are networking and marketing. It’s tied right into the name yet so often completely over looked.
Thanks for the post Laura!
Hi Laura,
You touch on great points here. As for the point on duplication. The more systemized you can make it, I feel the easier it is for both the trainer and trainee. Networking and Marketing, hence network marketing are afterall the key components to Any business. Regardless if it is MLM or not. You have to learn and be comfortable with both.
Asking for help… probably a big reason for high turnover in the industry. People do want to go there own way and try an reinvent that wheel as you speak about. When they get stuck doing so, often times they just throw up their hands and call it quits. So, you points 1 and 2 run hand in hand.
Great post and well stated.

Thanks for this list Laura!
I’ve found that as I’m trying to build my online business, I seem to hit roadblocks. Just recently, I’ve realized that my MINDSET is the whole problem! I’m so glad I read this post from you – I’ll be working on improving my mindset!
Jenny
@Jenny, Oh yes, mindset is EVERYTHING I believe. AND something we need to be constantly working on and plugging into positive. Thanks for the comment!
Wow great read, I agree with you 100% these are the top two for sure. Most people don’t realize how important personal development is to their success.
Here is what I tell all of my new reps and students. “If you already had the skills you needed to be successful chances are you would already be successful.”
This isn’t meant to hurt their feelings but to help motivate them to want to learn and grow.
I am loving these “top 10 network marketing newbie mistakes”. They are so common, yet everyone still wants to learn through trial and error. I think we can just shorten the learning curve, and just avoid these mistakes. Thanks for sharing.

@Angela Arnold, Hi Angela, they are so common aren’t they?! 🙂 And like I say that’s the beauty of our mistakes is not only sharing what to do but also what NOT to do to help lessen that learning curve. Thanks for the comment!
